REPORT OF THE COMPTROLLER AND AUDITOR GENERAL ON THE ACCOUNT OF RECEIPTS AND EXPENDITURE OF THE TREASURER OF HONG KONG FOR THE YEAR 1903.
1. The Revenue for the year 1905 amounted to $4,728,692.17, or,
or, inclusive of Land Sales, to $5,258,857.88. The Expenditure during the same period was $6,396,669.48. There was thus an ex- cess of Expenditure over Revenue of $157,811.60.
REVENUE.
2. The total Revenue of the year, amounting, as stated above, to $5,258,857.88, was $305,562.88 more than the Estimate of $4,955,295.00, and exceeded the Revenue of 1902 by $357,784.18.
The estimated receipts were exceeded under six out of the nine Heads of Revenue. The differences between the amounts estimated and realised under Heads and Sub-Heads are shown in the accompanying Detailed Statement of Revenue,
EXPENDITURE.
3. The total Expenditure of $5,396,669.48
was less than the Estimate by $248,931.75, and fell short of the Expenditure of 1902 by
$512,879.03.
The attention of the Colonial Treasurer
was called to the fact that certain expenditure incurred in the Sanitary Department, amounting
to upwards of $1,700, chargeable against the
subhead "Bonus for Rats", had been incorrectly
allocated to the subhead "Coolie Labour".
